Lord Jamar - The 5% AlbumLord Jamar
The 5% Album
Review by Marissa J. Lonardo AKA MJ

Lord Jamar’s “The 5% Album” is in one word; Religious. And with that said anyone who is not a 5 percenter or Muslim, will be turned off by this 21 track album filled with religious raps with guest apperences by RZA, Raekwon, Grand Puba, Papa Wu, Reality Allah, Prodigal Sunn, and Sadat X, just to name a few.

With one look at the CD case you will know what you are getting, no pictures of Lord Jamar, just the universal Islam sign, a moon with a star and then a 7 on top, with no pull out book, or track listing on the cover or the CD itself. You really don’t know what to expect until you pop it into your CD player and realize that this CD has 21 songs.

Lord Jamar does have a nice flow, and although I probably wouldn’t go out and buy the album, he does have some intelligent things to say. Tracks that standout are, Deep Space feat. RZA, a great intellectual song that has a nice beat with a catchy chorus, and “The Corner The Streets” feat. Grand Puba a great track that makes fans of Grand Puba, happy to see he still has it. “Supreme Mathematics” a nice track with two different mixs on the CD and both are good, although it doesn’t make sense that they needed two different mixs.

Overall the CD is way too religious and will turn anyone off that is not open minded and not willing to take the time to listen before they judge. With many guest apperencnes by great MC’s, Lord Jamar has the star power, but that’s all he has, because when you segment your music into the religious realm you segment your audience.

Prodigy - H.N.I.C. Pt. 2They can lock him down and try to knock him down too, but they can’t quite stop the wrath of Prodigy. With his blog being the topic of discussions on the daily, P isn’t letting anyone forget about him anytime soon. And that was the theme at his album release press party at Smash Studios in Manhattan last week
