Lord Jamar’s “The 5% Album” is in one word;
Religious. And with that said anyone who
is not a 5 percenter or Muslim, will be
turned off by this 21 track album filled
with religious raps with guest apperences
by RZA, Raekwon, Grand Puba, Papa Wu, Reality
Allah, Prodigal Sunn, and Sadat X, just
to name a few.
With one look at the CD case you will
know what you are getting, no pictures
of Lord Jamar, just the universal Islam
sign, a moon with a star and then a 7
on top, with no pull out book, or track
listing on the cover or the CD itself.
You really don’t know what to expect until
you pop it into your CD player and realize
that this CD has 21 songs.
Lord Jamar does have a nice flow, and
although I probably wouldn’t go out and
buy the album, he does have some intelligent
things to say. Tracks that standout are,
Deep Space feat. RZA, a great intellectual
song that has a nice beat with a catchy
chorus, and “The Corner The Streets” feat.
Grand Puba a great track that makes fans
of Grand Puba, happy to see he still has
it. “Supreme Mathematics” a nice track
with two different mixs on the CD and
both are good, although it doesn’t make
sense that they needed two different mixs.
Overall the CD is way too religious and
will turn anyone off that is not open
minded and not willing to take the time
to listen before they judge. With many
guest apperencnes by great MC’s, Lord
Jamar has the star power, but that’s all
he has, because when you segment your
music into the religious realm you segment
your audience. |
