The
Don Bishop Agallah
You Already know
Review by Marissa J.
Lonardo AKA MJ

|
| |
The Don Bishop Agallah is stepping out
of the safety net of his group Purple City
and venturing out on his own with his solo
offering 'You Already know'. Agallah has
had a Hip-Hop career spanning nearly a decade
including multiple album deals and producing
credits for heavy hitters like the late
great Big Pun, Dip-Set, and Busta, just
to name a few, Agallah, really takes us
into his world with this 19 track EP. You
will be thoroughly accustomed to Agallah,
with his raspy voice and his hard line life
that pops up in every song on the album.
Although the album does have many raw and
emotional lyrics, however, it falls into
the normal clichés of Hip-Hop albums,
(i.e. it has a tribute song to his mom,
the ever present ghetto song, and then a
throwback song of phone messages). G-Units
own Prodigy of Mobb Deep drops in to say
how great Ag’ is, which is somewhat
corny. Although the mama tribute song has
been done, Agallah's does have real emotion
considering his mom was murdered and his
own family buried her without even telling
him. But, the gangster persona gets old
especially on the song "Ride Out (O.G.G.G.)"
featuring The Alchemist, although the beat
is sick, it becomes repeative and how many
times does someone have to prove there gangster?
"NY Rider Music" featuring M1
of Dead Prez is definetly a great cut and
"Losing My Mind" with Carl Anthony
rounds out the good. "On The Ave"
which is a filler song and “Club Hoppin’”
is the one song I guess I’ll call
"one for the ladies."
With Alchemist and DJ Premier helping out
with the production and the beats being
on point, the only things that are missing
is more Agallah and less gangster. The greatest
songs on the album are "Mama"
and "Cry for Help" which are also
the realest songs. If you are a Dipset fan,
then this is right up your alley but if
not you may still get something out of it.
The album as a whole is a solid effort for
a talented MC that has had more ups and
downs than a seesaw. |

Prodigy Exclusive
Album Listening Session
Words: Marissa J. Lonardo a.k.a. MJ
They
can lock him down and try to knock him down
too, but they can’t quite stop the wrath
of Prodigy. With his blog being the topic
of discussions on the daily, P isn’t letting
anyone forget about him anytime soon. And
that was the theme at his album release
press party at Smash Studios in Manhattan
last week |
