By now you probably know due to all of the press and exposure that the stunning young actress, Lupita Nyong’o won an Oscar for her Best Supporting Actress role as Patsey in the Academy Award winning movie, “12 Years a Slave”. All eyes are on this talented young woman and they should be. But did you also know that Lupita won an award for Best Breakthrough Performance at the seventh annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon hosted by Essence magazine last week? Yes, she did and it was there where she delivered an emotional speech on black beauty and how she used to view herself.
Lupita also shared a letter written to her by a black girl struggling with her own dark skin. The young girl was planning on using whitening cream to lighten her skin until she saw Lupita. This moved Lupita to share her own struggle. You can view her emotional speech within the video below:
I believe that her speech should be viewed and heard by everyone but especially young black girls.
Please share by clicking on the Facebook, Twitter or other links below because her inspirational speech really needs to be heard. Thank you!
