MJG
- This Might Be The Day
Words: Low
The
legendary rap veteran, MJG is releasing
his third highly anticipated solo album
via MJG Musik/404 Music Inc. MJG is very
excited about this project and has major
plans in the future for his production
team as well as ghost writing for a superstar
producer. We tried to inquire into his
and 8Ball's moving from Bad Boy Records
to T.I.'s Grand Hustle situation and got
an answer, we think...
Let's get it in! You got a new
solo album coming out, right?
MJG: Yeah,
that's right.
What's the name of the album and
when is it due to hit stores?
MJG: "This
Might Be The Day" and it's due out
on July 15th
This is your first solo album
in a minute? What prompted you to roll
with it?
MJG: I'm
always focusing on the 8Ball and MJG projects
but at the same time, I'm always in the
studio working on solo stuff. I'm always
working on beats and writing so, I just
felt like it was a good time to come back
with another solo project.
Who all is on the album?
MJG: 8Ball,
Gucci Mane, and Pleasure P from Pretty
Ricky.
Why did you decide to choose "Shades"
as the lead single?
MJG: The
song is me, I'm always wearing shades
and I wanted to bring something different
to the table.
Who produced the album?
MJG: Me and
my production team, Space Age Pimpin.
Are you touring right now to promote
the album?
MJG: Yeah,
I'll probably do a little promo run then
I'll hit 'em with a real tour later.
You're considered a living legend
in the rap game, you've been successful
at it for a long time. What is it about
the rap game that keep you involved?
MJG: I love
being apart of it. It's the best thing
going. You got to be down with hip-hop
to be down with the present time.
You have serious longevity in
the game, so what advise would you give
to some of these young cats out here?
MJG: It all
comes back to hard work, putting in hard
work is going yield good results. At the
core of everything you're going to have
to love it. If you're just saying that
you like it or love it because it sounds
good at the time or whatever you know
that's not true love; you got to have
that passion for it.
What would you say is the most
satisfying part of what you do?
MJG: Outside
of the money and being able to take care
of my family... It's like more exciting
now when you have a song that people still
really love. Young, old or middle age.
It's even more overwhelming when you drop
a song and step in the club and the fans
are up on it like something we did way
back. The age range for our music is so
diverse it's just crazy. That has been
a blessed part of our career, having fans
of all ages.
What would you consider to be
your biggest accomplishment musically?
MJG: Just
being in the game long enough where I'm
starting to forget exactly how many albums
we got. You know our goal is to do this
so long that our catalog will be endless.
Like if you wanted to play all of our
songs in the club, it would have stay
open for four days straight.
So there's no thought of retirement?
MJG: Nah,
our influence is a big part of the industry
now. If we put ourselves out the game
right now there would be a void. I think
we owe it to our fans to come back out
every now and then.
Aside from pushing your current
project what are some of your future plans?
MJG: Right
now I'm going to be joining Jazze Pha's
writing team, I'll be also getting my
production team tight too. Space Age Beats,
hopefully, you'll be seeing that name
on a lot of projects in the near future.
I recently heard that you and
8Ball are no longer on Bad Boy and have
moved on to T.I.'s Grand Hustle. Is that
true?
MJG: Right
now, it's 404 and it's MJG Musik.
We're currently experiencing a
jacked-up economy and we're in the era
of bootlegging. Tell me why should hip-hop
heads go out and buy your new album in
July?
MJG: Aw man,
if you don't know about MJG or 8Ball &
MJG go ask somebody. That's the reason.
If you doubting it just go ask somebody
and after they run the history down for
you and you don't want to go get it then
I don't know what's wrong with you!
