raw lyrics with a unique, melodic and
energetic flow. According to Flo-Rida,
his wide range of musical influences,
his determination and love for music will
keep him in the rap game for long time.
Find out what else ya boy, Flo-Rida had
to say during our recent interview!
Tell us about yourself. Who is
Flo-Rida?
Flo-Rida:
I grew up in Miami Florida (Carol City).
I been doing music for over twelve years
strong. When I do my music I like to come
from a universal approach, for the simple
fact that I've been out on the west coast
and I've grinded hard on the east coast.
Basically, I just love music.
What's the deal with your name?
Flo-Rida: I
wanted to come with something that I was
comfortable with, I didn't want to give
myself a name like "Big Ace".
I wanted a name that represented where
I'm from. So I was sitting back one day
and said I can take Florida and pronounce
it Flo-Rida. I flow, a lot of times I
rap fast and ride the beat so it's Flo-Rida.
What was it that made you decide
you wanted to rap?
Flo-Rida:
I grew up listening the the local group
Poison Clan and my cousin used to always
buy a lot of music that I'd listen to.
And at my projects laundry mat there would
be a lot of guys rapping all of the time.
So I just fell victim to it.
So, you're also part of a rap
group, right?
Flo-Rida: Yeah,
the Ground Howgz and its three of us;
Fifth, Bread and myself. We're all from
Carol City. I'm stepping out as the front
man.
How would you describe your music?
Flo-Rida:
My music is from the left field. I have
like a melodic flow, the urban and pop
market should feel me.
The current single is called
"Low". Why was this song selected
as the lead single?
Flo-Rida:
A lot of people was really feeling this
song. T-Pain felt that I represented and
he thought that my flow and timing was
on point. It's also the lead single off
of the Step Up 2 movie.
So, who produced the song?"
Flo-Rida:
Monte, out of Atlanta.
How did you hook up with T-Pain
for this joint?
Flo-Rida:
I already knew him, but the label put
us together for this record.
Tell us about the album, release
date and all.
Flo-Rida:
The album is called "Mail On Sunday".
Ya know Monte produced "Low",
The Runners produced "The Birthday"
single. I've also got production from
Jazze Pha, Cool and Dre, The Designated
Hittas. I've got songs with Rick Ross,
Brisco, Cash Money, and Trey Songs. The
album should be out first quarter of next
year.
Name a few of your favorite rappers.
Flo-Rida:
I'll have to say that I do like Lil Wayne,
he's doing his thing right now. And I
got mad love for Andre 3000.
What qualities do you have that'll
keep you in the rap game for minute?
Flo-Rida:
I love music and people can tell by the
concepts of my songs and the word play
that I deliver. First and foremost if
you're going to sell records people have
to really love the artist. Definitely
the girls are gonna love me, I'm a dude
who work out. My influences range from
Jimmy Hendrix to Gospel Artists to 50
Cent. I make sure I do my homework so
a lot people are going to fall fond of
me.
If you weren't doing music right
now what would you be doing?
Flo-Rida:
I would be in school pursuing a degree
in business management and at the same
time I'd probably be playing basketball.
What are some of your future
goals?
Flo-Rida:
Owning businesses, going back to school,
probably get into movies; things of that
nature.
Are you doing any promo tour
dates?
Flo-Rida:
Most definitely, I've been doing a lot
of shows and radio appearances.
