New York Knicks’ Legend Charles Oakley Provoked Before Being Arrested
New York Knicks’ legend Charles Oakley arrested after an altercation with security during the first quarter of the Knicks and Clippers game Wednesday night.
According to Madison Square Garden security, the altercation popped off only after Oakley yelled at the Knicks’ owner James Dolan and was politely asked to leave.
Oakley said late Wednesday night after being released from jail, “I was there for four minutes. I didn’t say anything to him. I swear on my mother. They came over and wanted to know why I was sitting there. I bought the ticket. I said why do you guys keep staring at me. Then they asked me to leave. And I said I’m not leaving”
After watching several different videos of the incident, it appears to me that Oakley was first confronted and harassed by James Dolan’s goons (Madison Square Garden security staff). How should he have reacted when eight goons, excuse me, I meant eight security dudes swarm in just as he sat down trying to enjoy the game? I think they were looking to cause problems when they rolled up on the isle where Oak was sitting. Besides, they already know Oakley don’t take no shit from anybody, not even at age 53. Dolan wanted that drama to jump off and it was probably on some get back type shit from his previous issues with Oakley.

Even a fan – Ian Schafer – who witnessed and filmed the incident said Oakley appeared calm until the scuffle.
“He took off his watch and asked somebody to hold his watch,” Schafer said. “It didn’t look like he started anything, to be honest. It looked like he was provoked in some way, because it didn’t look like there was any buildup to anything happening.”
Oakley was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and one of criminal trespass. A source also said that Oakley declined legal representation because he was only hit with a desk appearance ticket.
Regardless of how it actually went down, I believe the Knicks’ organization handled this incident wrong. I also think Dolan simply pulled a Trump move. What do you think?
